ANDERSON — A 43-year-old Anderson woman squirmed, made faces, uttered random comments and gestured to people in Anderson Municipal Court Thursday as she tried to defend herself against accusations that she solicited sex from a city employee.

When given a turn to represent herself, Lisa Rice of 211 Grimes St. incriminated herself, drawing a fine of $1,092.50 or 30 days in jail for the 2:35 p.m. incident on Tuesday on Thomas Street. She was convicted of solicitation for immoral purposes.

Earlier, Officer Donald Cabral testified that Rice was standing in the middle of Thomas Street, offering sex to a city building codes employee.

“I was asking him if he liked black women or white women,” countered Rice, saying that she does not sell sex to anyone.

John Johnston told Judge Ken Mattison that he saw a woman stop a van on Thomas Street before he was confronted by the same woman, identified as Rice, who wanted to know if Johnson was “interested in having sex for $3.”

That’s a lie, Rice said.

“What can I do with $3? Nothing,” she said. “I don’t like white men anyway.”

Saturday, city police confronted Rice on Watson Street where she was taking off her clothes in public, the second time in a two-hour period, according to the incident report.

Officer Matthew Stipe arrested Rice about 10:45 a.m. Saturday and charged her with disorderly conduct after finding her “walking in the roadway and screaming at the top of her lungs,” Stipe’s report states.
