ANDERSON When city of Anderson police responded to a reported burglary around 6:15 p.m. Thursday on South Murray Avenue, they encountered a man who said he had been in pursuit of two burglars.
Police did not believe Vincent Edward Webb, 43, of Johnson Street in Anderson and charged him with hindering an officer, grand larceny, third-degree burglary, failure to accompany and assault on a police officer.
Webb, insisting that he was injured during the arrest and had been denied medical care for a broken rib, pleaded not guilty Friday and demanded a jury trial.
After Anderson Municipal Court Judge Ken Mattison ordered a $2,132.50 property bond for the misdemeanor charges, and before another bond was set for the charges of third-degree burglary and grand larceny, Webb blasted the police, cursing and accusing them of lying and acting like gang members.
Mattison ordered Webb held in contempt of court, ordering Webb to pay a $500 fine or 30 days in jail.
According to a police report, only one man walked out the front door Thursday afternoon at Roy Skelton Automotive when police arrived.
Webb, who provided a false name to authorities, insisted that he is the one who called police to report the crime, according to the incident report. Police said Webb, who does not own a business, claimed to have chased two people from his business and into the repair shop.
During a trip to jail, Webb became agitated, threatened officer’s lives and kicked a supervising officer in his knee before elbowing him in his chest, according to the report.

Nice try Webb but nobody's buying it. How about a one way bus ticket out of Anderson?
I suppose WEBB would also have complained if the constables had just shot him to end his misery.
Fighting with the police never ends good. Hopefully, Mr. Webb has learned his lesson. Although his behavior in the courtroom might indicate otherwise!
