CrimeStoppers needs help from the community after fatal shooting of Anderson teen

— Anderson Area CrimeStoppers has placed a sign at River Oak Apartments in Anderson to inform people about the $2,000 reward available for information regarding the shooting death of Jerry “Drek” Mattison.

The sign was donated by Danny Tollison of Regal Sign Company, according to a CrimeStoppers news release.

Mattison was killed in late June at the age of 16 after being shot twice in River Oak Apartments on East River Street. Mattison was a student at Westside High School in Anderson.

Police have said the incident could have gang-related undertones. But Mattison’s father, Jerry Cowan, is adamant that his son was not involved in any gang activity.

Tylar Hamilton of Anderson was shot in the leg during the attack that left Mattison dead. Hamilton and another victim, who declined to provide his name to authorities, survived.

Anderson Area CrimeStoppers is registered with the IRS and the state of South Carolina as a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, according to the release. The highest reward CrimeStoppers itself can offer on a case is $2,000.

Anyone wishing to add to the reward in the Mattison case may do so by sending a tax-deductible check to CrimeStoppers, P.O. Box 219, Anderson, SC 29622, according to the release.

The investigation of the shooting is ongoing, but no new leads are coming in on the tip line about the Mattison case, according to the release.

Anyone wishing to leave anonymous information about any criminal case can call the CrimeStoppers tip line at (864) 231-STOP (7867).
