On the job for about two weeks, a 38-year-old Belton man made his first evaluation to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office after his new employer turned out to be a fraud.
Wednesday, Benton Harvey, who started his job Aug. 24, told deputies that he accepted an advertising job that he found on the Internet.
As part of his job description, Harvey was to cash checks from the company, keep a commission and forward the money to contractors working outside the United States, according to the report. Fortunately, the scam was stopped before anyone lost any money.
When the first check arrived Tuesday and an attempt to cash it was made, Harvey was told that the check was fraudulent, the report states.
