McCaskill shines among star performances in Week 5

STORY TOOLS

Several choices to choose from after the most big performances of the season on the same week.

There was Daniel’s J.P. Hill’s two interceptions, Wren’s Chris Perdomo’s 11 catches for 172 yards and a TD, or Daniel’s Justin Walker’s 153 passing yards and four TDs on 7-of-10 passing.

But no one put up the video game numbers that Wren QB Austin McCaskill did against Easley, throwing for 421 yards and six scores. He completed 25-of-37 passes for a career night in only the sixth game of his career. McCaskill is leading the area QBs in stats by a country mile, now up to 1,580 yards passing with a 50 percent completion rate. He’s thrown 14 TDs, and 10 interceptions.

Week 5 picks

I went 8-6 on my picks this week, losing Westside-Greenville, Woodmont-Palmetto, Travelers Rest-Walhalla, Seneca-Blue Ridge, Whitmire-Dixie, and Franklin County-Oconee County. I’m 44-21 on the season.

Give credit to Seneca coach Ron Duncan for his first victory as Bobcats coach. Duncan was the last of five area first-year coaches to get his first W at his new school. The Bobcats’ defense scored nine points in a 22-14 victory.
