Siren test scheduled at Oconee Nuclear Station

SENECA — Duke Energy will test sirens around the Oconee Nuclear Station on July 8 around 11:50 a.m.

The three-minute test requires no public action and is meant to ensure the sirens are functioning correctly.

Representatives from the company said such tests don’t mean people must evacuate. Residents are instead encouraged to turn to a radio or television, the means by which county officials will provide information.

The siren tests are performed once a quarter.

Duke Energy is one of the largest electric power holding companies in the nation and serves customers in five states: the Carolinas, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.
