Clemson’s Aleda Roth first woman named Distinguished Fellow of management society

CLEMSON UNIVERSITY — Aleda Roth has been named a 2009 Distinguished Fellow of the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society. Roth, the Burlington Industries Professor of Supply Chain Management in the College Of Business And Behavioral Science at Clemson University, is the first woman to receive the prestigious scholarly recognition in operations management.

The award was presented at the 2009 Summer Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Conference and Special Interest Group meetings at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston. The fellow distinction is given in recognition of outstanding research and leadership in operations management.

Roth is a prolific researcher in supply chain management and service operations strategies. She recently earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Production and Operations Management Society College of Service Operations and was named a distinguished faculty member of the Center for Services Leadership. Her research productivity in leading academic journals in the area of service operations is ranked seventh worldwide; and in terms of overall productivity she ranks in the top 1 percent. Her research has been recognized with more than 60 awards.

Roth came to Clemson in 2006 from Arizona State University, where she held the W.P. Carey Chair in Supply Chain Management. Previously, she worked at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At UNC-Chapel Hill she was the Mary Farley Lee Distinguished Professor of Operations Management and chairwoman of the global supply chain management concentration in the master’s of business administration program. She also has held faculty appointments at the Duke University Fuqua School of Business and the Boston University School of Management.
