The Anderson Police Department wants parents to be careful when taking their little goblins out for tricks and treats.
To ensure a safe Halloween, the police department offered the following tips:
- Children should avoid trick-or-treating alone, staying in groups or with a trusted adult instead.
- Reflective tape attached to costumes and treat bags helps drivers see children.
- All treats should be examined for choking hazards and tampering before being eaten. Homemade treats should be avoided unless those collecting the goodies know the cook well.
- Children should walk on sidewalks, look both ways before crossing the street and never walk near lit candles or lit luminaries. Unless they are with a trusted adult, children should never enter homes while trick-or-treating.
- Masks, costumes and shoes that fit well will help avoid blocked vision, trips and falls.
