Twenty children each received a $100 gift card to spend any way they wanted. The retailer donated a portion of the money, and the rest was provided by the Anderson County Fraternal Order of Police.

“Shop with the Cops” took place Dec. 20 at Wal-Mart on Liberty Highway in Anderson.

  • 'Scarlet', an eleven month old English Bulldog, who is owned by Jerry Kubu and Krystal McCoy of Anderson, gets her picture taken with Santa Claus on Sunday afternoon at Pet Smart. The Anderson County Humane Society and Pet Smart teamed up to offer pictures with Santa Claus for customers pets. Customers could purchase a 4x6 print that came with a frame for $9.95 from Pet Smart. Half of the proceeds that Pet Smart received from the photos was donated to the Anderson County Humane Society. About 60 pets were photographed on Saturday and 40 to 50 on Sunday, according the Humane Society. 'We're doing this just for fun,' said Mr. Kudu. 'Our kids think we're nuts.'

St. John's United Methodist Church in Anderson presented Everlasting Light, the dramatic portrayal of the birth of Jesus Christ Dec. 13 and Dec. 14 for passers-by to see. The scene included live animals, including horses, camels, donkeys and sheep.

Wanting to remember soldiers who have sacrificed so much, Lavonia Elementary second graders prepared cards to send to some of those who have been injured in service to our country. Each student wrote a personal note to his or her soldier who is being treated or is recuperating at Walter Reed Hospital. With thanks to soldiers for serving our country and sympathy for injuries incurred, second graders stamped their cards and with a smile placed them in the outgoing mail.

Thousands of motorcycle riders joined together for 27th annual Anderson Toy Parade from the Watson Villiage Shopping Center parking lot along Main street to the Civic Center of Anderson. Toys were collected to give to underprivileged children for Christmas.
