ANDERSON Former Anderson Police Capt. James Johnson plans to fight the decision made by top city officials to uphold his recent termination from the police department.
Johnson received a letter from Anderson City Manager John Moore on Thursday indicating that the city’s grievance process in Johnson’s case was done, and Johnson would not be returning to his position at the police department.
“The grievance committee upheld his termination,” Moore said. “And I upheld the committee’s decision.”
Johnson is in the process of retaining an attorney, Steve Henry, from Greenville, said Horace Alexander, Johnson’s representative. Alexander said Johnson was terminated because of “how he sent e-mails to people who worked in the city.”
“Nothing surprises me at this point,” Alexander said regarding the decision to uphold Johnson’s termination.
Alexander said Johnson sent e-mails to officials with the police department and copied those to city employees outside of the police department so that “nothing he said would be taken out of context.”
Johnson’s termination comes after his employment was catapulted into the public eye in the wake of his being ordered to take sexual harassment training when he admitted to inappropriate conduct with a female police recruit.
According to Johnson’s personnel file, which was released to the Independent-Mail in September, a female recruit whom Johnson had interviewed as part of his duties as a captain for recruitment and training, was asked inappropriate questions during her hiring process.
Community members plan to gather Oct. 27 to protest the decision made in Johnson’s case and other civil rights violations that protestors believe have been committed by city of Anderson police officers, Alexander said.

Well said!!
The protest and subject matter of the article may be flawed logic or questionable, but the comments made thus far speak volumes about the folks who made them.

All of the above posters wouldn't happen to be members of the KKK would you? Anderson County and the rest of the upstate has some of the most rascist rednecks in the world. I guess you are entitled to every thing just because you are white. I don' think so!!! We all know what side of the fence you and your other posts are on.
The Civil Rights Acts and the Voting Rights Acts were necessary. As a white Southerner, I know that for a fact.
However, everybody should be held to the same standard. A police officer, especially a senior administrator, must be held to an even higher standard.
Chief Brown, the grievance committee and the city made the right decision.
A protest is planned for Johnson's case and other civil rights violations. How is it a violation of Johnson's civil rights to fire him for improper conduct? If he was white he'd be fired, end of story. No one would be marching or protesting on his behalf.
It appears that the racists in this situation are Alexander and his crew if they think Johnson's behavior should be tolerated and that he should be treated differently because he's black.
Whay don't we just cut to the chase here and everyone parade around with signs with pictures of Horace Alexander and AIM print his name about fifty times in an article. Here's my contribution.

All this is is a bunch of theater designed to get his name out there. I guess he is running for office or trying to get donations for his umpteen non-profits.
Horace, please spare us the fake facade of your self promotion!!

I am NO member of the KKK. If you are wrong no matter the color you are WRONG, Quit whinning I am wrong but you discriminate against me.
From what I have read, He and some more can be still be sued for Sexual Harassment.Civil Rights or not.
Horace Alexander is a joke. He is simply someone trying to stir up trouble because of his race. He actually gives African-Americans a bad name.
Capt Johnson was fired because he copied a internal email & sent it to others outside of the police dept.he wasn't fired for sexual harrassment,
he was given a second chance to attend sexual harrassment classes.the email he copied & sent was the straw that broke the camels back.he broke multiple rules & got what he deserved. to everyone who thinks that he was fired because of race.maybe through out his 20 year career w/ the city police he was promoted from street patrol all the way up to captain because of his race?,I don't think so. I think that Captian Johnson is a good man & was a great police officer.I think his ego got the best of him after he became a senior administrator which led to careless decisions & actions.here's an interesting link. check out it out for yourself.

I agree with Usecommonsense!
Ptown, go back to Ptown if you aren't happy here........
maybe the 4 officers that were just fired at the detention center for excessive force should go to this website http://www.andersonpd.com/general-ord...
and study up on the rules and regulations again.

I agree with you. What credentials does he have?

Regardless of what race you are, you are just plain stupid.
CAPTAIN JOHNSON IS SMARTER THAN YOU THINK. I THINK THE CITY SHOULD HAVE STUCK TO THERE GUNS. BUT NOW THE CITY IS GOING TO RIGHT HIM ONE FAT CHECK REGARDLESS IF HE WAS WRONG OR RIGHT. HE GOT HIMSELF FIRED, NOW HE WILL GET HIMSELF RETIRED. THATS PRETTY SMART. AND ALEXANDER GETS THE FAME.

Well written and I agree.... I wish others here were more tackful.

Do you even know what the Civil Rights Act is...because the last time I checked, desegregating America didn't lower the White Man's standard of living. And what is this "American Way" that African-Americans, women, and other minorities were supposed to conform to? Segregation? Having to use a different bathroom or water fountain because of the color of your skin? Being denied a job because of your gender? Yeah, that's the "American way." The Civil Rights acts ended segregation in public places, schools, and employment. That's it. It doesn't say anything about lazy people or even poor people. Also, it has nothing to do with this article.
