Upstate woman says family needs justify thefts

— A Spartanburg woman is facing a $15,000 property bond after saying she needed money in the face of accusations that she stole credit cards from people at an Anderson health facility.

Lova Jean Holbert, 36, who was arrested Tuesday and was in custody as of Wednesday at the Anderson City Jail, is charged with two counts of credit card theft involving more than $600, according to testimony Wednesday in Anderson Municipal Court.

Anderson police investigator Grady Epps said Holbert is wanted for similar crimes in Due West and North Carolina, and that she faces at least two more warrants in Anderson.

“I need money to live,” Holbert said in court. “I'm sorry, but I have a 1-year-old son and a husband in the hospital.”

According to a police report, an employee of AnMed Health Family Practice at 2000 E. Greenville St. told police that someone removed credit cards from her purse between noon and 5 p.m. on Sept. 19.

Citing Holbert's “lengthy” criminal history of similar crimes, Judge Hugh Welborn set a higher-than-usual bond and ordered her to have no contact with the two alleged victims.

Was she working at these facilities?? Is she not on some sort of gov grant that could her bad income and hel w/ her son and husband?? Sounds like even if she did get help w/ her son and husband, she'd still be a petty theif. Sad

Sounds like somebody dropped the ball and didn't do a background check!

If she can hold off long enough Robinhood/socialist Obama will give her some money soon. All she has to do is put her hand out!

Who DOESN'T need money to live? As a single mother who gets no child support, I work 50+ hours a week just to make my ends meet! I don't steal from others because I have "family needs." I drop my daughter off at school the millisecond the doors open (and it's still dark outside), in order to get to my JOB and make an honest living. Get a job, lady!

This lady did not work at any of these facilities. So it was no ones fault about doing a background check. She would walk in dressed in medical attire and act like she fit in. I agree that we all have our own stories of need for money for our families but that does not give us the right to go and steal from others. With gas as expensive as it is, she was able to get around from place to place somehow. It just sounds to me like she is trying to play on somebodys heart strings to avoid going to jail. Get a job and work like the rest of us!!
