Convenience store robbed in Anderson County

— A convenience store robbery in Anderson County Thursday night did not result in any injuries, according to officials.

A call was placed to 911 at 9:33 p.m. Thursday regarding activity at the Dollar General store at 3502 E. River St. in Anderson, said Susann Griffin, spokeswoman for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. That call came in from the Hickory Point convenience store next door to the Dollar General. Roughly four minutes after that, another 911 call was placed by the alarm company for the Dollar General, Griffin said.

Deputies received reports that gunshots were heard at the site, Griffin said. Two black males reportedly were seen with a shotgun headed down Broadway Lake Road toward S.C. 413 in a dark sedan after the robbery, Griffin said.

Anyone who has information regarding the case is asked to call Crimestoppers operations in Anderson County at (864) 231-STOP (7867) or the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office at (864) 332-5453.

A Sandy Springs convenience store on Wednesday was robbed for the second time in four months. Alemu Befekadu, the owner of the Corner Stop at 5630 U.S. 76 in Anderson County, fired a gun in that case at a man wearing a ski mask after the man entered the store around 8 p.m. No one was injured, Befekadu said.

It's a matter of time before owners start to attack back. These people breaking in and the robberies show how stupid people are. They don't realize the danger they put everyone in. Any by-stander could become them victim. They simply need money, but not once do they stop and think
"What if I get shot or caught" People are ready to protect themselves in this run down economy.

People are really gambling with their lives to work or even shop at convenience stores nowadays. I was thinking that maybe the stores could install payment windows and start locking their doors at dusk but that wouldn't stop the robberies. The thugs would just start shooting and robbing the customers as they pump their gas.

I agree. It is dangerous to work or shop at a convenience store nowadays. I know the girl that helped the clerk that was shot in Pelzer last week. She drove up as the robbery was taking place. It's a miracle she wasn't shot too.
