Anderson Interfaith Ministries kicked off its first annual campaign for fund raising on Friday afternoon.

The Anderson School District Five modified calendar allowed students attending Varennes Elementary, Homeland Park Elementary, Nevitt Forest Elementary, and Southwood Middle School to get a jump start on the rest of the schools, who return August 19.

8-year-old old ran over

An 8-year-old boy was hit Sunday afternoon by a young motorist. The motorist was driving a 1996 Jeep and hit the boy when he over-corrected after running off the other side of the road. The boy was taken to AnMed health and then taken by helicopter to Greenville Hospital System.

Home from Afghanistan

U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Andy Bolt of Anderson, a recent Bronze Star recipient, is taking a month break from a variety of work with the Police Advisory Corps for the 205th Corps training, advising, and conducted combat operations with the Afghan Security Forces. On the ground for 13 months in Afghanistan, he works with the Army Air Missle Command when he gets back to work, including work in Washington D.C.

Fatal accident on Austin Road

An elderly man died when his Buick LeSabre struck an oak tree in a wooded area in the embankment across from 911 Austin Road near Honea Path in Anderson County. Anderson County coroner Greg Shore, Craytonville volunteer firefighters, Honea Path rescue squad and Belton rescue squad helped at the scene.

Clemson football ladies clinic

Nearly 750 ladies came out for the Tommy Bowden Clemson football ladies clinic at Clemson. The all-day event took a good look at the inside of locker rooms, weight rooms, WestEnd Zone, meeting most players and coaches, testing their running and throwing skills, as well as running down the hill.

Mom's Club

Anderson chapter of the Mom's Club, a national organization with around 2,000 clubs since 1983, held "Messy Craft Day" with the mom's support group to help kids who don't go to pre-school to socialize.

Fire guts Liberty home

Firefighters from Three and Twenty as well as Walker McElmoyle stations in Anderson County responded to a fire at 500 Wilderness Trail in Anderson County. The home, with a Liberty fixed address, burned after residents said a grease fire got out of control. No one was injured, but most of the personal belongings were destroyed. Firefighters told residents they could get aid from Red Cross on the scene.

Police respond to semi fire

South Carolina Highway Patrol responded Friday to an accident and possible fire at Interstate 85 and Exit 19 in Anderson involving a box truck.
