South Carolina's dropout rate has been called the worst in the nation, with anywhere from one out of two to one out of five students failing to graduate. An Anderson Independent-Mail investigation, “A State at Risk: How dropouts affect our future,” showed the state is making progress on the problem, but has a long way to go.
