Several years ago the Belton City Council voted to receive $250 per month in lieu of the city's portion of health insurance.
About three years ago, they voted for the city to provide insurance and keep the extra $250 per month. The city pays the major portion as it does for employees.
What Seneca is doing is fine, but the Belton Council is cheating the people. Of course, the Belton council already receives twice as much money as the Seneca council to begin with.

The council held a meeting and tour on the 24th and still does not have a plan for how to use the money. See the article in the newspaper on the 25th.
Other areas have proven needs with engineering and plans ready to go.
It is not against Belton, but rather spending very tight money on what is really needed, perhaps in Belton.

Do you know how much Joey Preston charges for information?
Regardless, how many city and counties have hired new administrators with full contracts the same day they offered a buy out to the present administrator.
Has nothing to do with Mr. Cunningham's qualifications but whether or nor appropriate business practices and due process have been administered.
Probably not, but would this violate some anti-discrimination laws?

FACT: The City Hall is not listed on the historic register and never can be because of all the attached buildings, e.g. council chambers, water dept, police dept., fire dept., etc. Already been tried.
Just a waste of money when so many other areas have real needs.

BTW, the city obviously did not need the space renovated as they still do not have a plan for how to use it.
Other municipalities and organizations have existing, engineered plans for facilities that the county is NOT funding.

Larry Greer ADDED this to the original bond proposal. The second floor has never been used in over 30 years because it is not needed. The city only has 45 total employees, down from over 60 a few years ago. They have plenty of space downstairs and at the Leo Fisher building and elsewhere if they really need it.
Neither Tri-County Tech, Anderson University, the county or anyone else would ever use the space.
It will cost $50-100,000 just to build the MANDATORY eleavtor and then probably another $25-50,000 or more for deconstruction, debris removal and code compliance.
County council should revise the list of projects and transfer funds such as this to water and road projects.
Is this really just something for the egos of the county councilmember and the "consultant" who came up with it?

While Mr. Cunningham may very well be the best person for the job, the method used to "hire" him will hang over him and the council like a black cloud for years.
He should serve as interim for six months and then let the council decide whether to hire him permanently or advertise for an administrator.

The AG has informed me before that he does NOT represent the people of S.C., but rather the government of SC. Don't expect any help from Columbia on this.
Of course if it will help his political career, then he will get involved.

No matter how you present it, the actions by McAbee, Greer, Thompson, R. Wilson and Floyd were wrong and an insult to the people of Anderson County. It will also cause corporations to think twice about investing in Anderson County.
Floyd's action is an insult to her husband's memory.
BTW, has Joey Preston already picked out the rooms to be named for the above 5 in the new county office building?

Larry Greer's parting shot was to waste $250,000 on the Belton City Hall's second floor. It has never been used for more than storage and the city has NO plans for how to use it.
People in Mr. Greer's district need water, sewer, roads, public safety and many other things, but he "gifts" Belton with a quarter of a million dollars on a useless renovation. Will his name be on it?
