Aw, c'mon, Upstate Mom. It was a clever headline - a little too cute maybe (two "punny" thoughts in one headline), but clever. The reader could have guessed what happened before reading the story. Personally, I think clever headlines like this one are useful to break the monotony of crime reports. But I'll agree that, while an occasional one like this is entertaining, too many of them grow tiresome after awhile, especially if they stre-e-e-etch for that perfect pun. Besides, I'd bet that if that story makes the print edition of AIM, the internet headline won't.

I've been to that USC J-School, but not as a student (Clemson grad here.) I understand how tough it can be to keep a sense of humor when you're that close to the seat of S.C. government, but lighten up a little bit.

I don't know about that. I've had my share of knee-slappers and braintwisters show up in print. A reporter should never be the only one to edit his own copy. I really find it hard to believe that one slipped past an editor, which leads me to believe it went straight from writer to publication. That's always a bad idea, no matter how good the writer is.

On Anderson deputy nabs sex offender with pants down

"PIEDMONT — A 34-year-old sex offender is being held in the Anderson County Detention Center after spending several weeks performing a sex act in a Piedmont gas station's restroom, officials said."

I've defended a lot of stylistic oddities here in recent months, but that paragraph just SCREAMS for a rewrite. He spent "several weeks performing a sex act" or he is alleged to have REPEATEDLY PERFORMED a sex act over a period of several weeks?

Sure, and I challenge every other Clemson University employee to give up 10 percent of their salary to help Clemson continue its absurd building program and its outrageous drive to become one of the top 20 universities in the nation, despite the fact that both are driving a college education out of the price range of the average South Carolina family. Dabo doesn't have to give up anything to help the administration at Clemson pour money down the black hole of elitist ambition. The Athletic Department is self-sufficient and self-sustaining. If the rest of Clemson University would ever get a clue and achieve the same thing, maybe they could return to striving to achieve the goals that were established for them in their charter, not the goals of an elite few.

Oh, and as an aside, it didn't take then-Athletic Director Bill McLellan two months to make the right decision back then, either. Go, Dabo!!

Here's a little added pressure for Dabo. For those of you not totally immersed in Clemson football history, 30 years ago today - December 1, 1978 - Charley Pell announced that he was leaving Clemson to take over the program at the University of Florida, opening the way for the hiring for a young, untested assistant coach by the name of Danny Ford. What great timing! :)

I hereby vow to show President Obama exactly the same level of respect and deference that Obama's party showed George W. Bush over the past eight years.

How's that? Best I can promise. ;)

It's kind of tongue-in-cheek, but it makes perfect sense to me. What part do you need to have explained?

The only thing that constantly and chronically drives me absolutely mad is the newpaper industry's habit of identifying an assault-STYLE rifle as an "assault rifle." There's a huge difference, but the mainstream media happily adopts the Washington-speak, anti-gun rhetoric and repeats it day after day after day as fact.

Well, personally, I really, honestly believe we do owe the next President of the United States at least the same level of respect, deference and bipartisanship as Mr. Obama's party has shown to the current President of the United States and Commander in Chief.

Fortunately, that shouldn't be too difficult. ;)
