By not punishing Moore, Judge Welborn is helping him towards "doom and destruction." Feeling sorry for young criminals doesn't do them any good. He's 17 years old! He won't learn until the consequences actually hurt. He's been in trouble many, many times.

I'm reading these comments a little late, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the food and service at Palmetto Grill were poor. I thought it was a one-time thing since there are lot of cars there when I pass by.

My friends and I went to dinner around 4:30 when there were about three other tables seated, so the lack of attention from the waitress couldn't be blamed on being busy.

My salmon was bland and the sweet potato was microscopic. I've never seen so much white space around food on a plate in a restaurant. My friends' steaks weren't great either. I'd rather go to Outback where I know I'm getting my money's worth.

The real shame here is all these traffic complaints delay actual construction. The delays in turn lead to increasing costs resulting in more cuts in the building plans themselves.

These new middle schools were supposed to be under construction by now.

The new middle school near Lakeside will replace the current Southwood (long overdue!). The other school on Old Wmstn. will accompany the existing McCants. These new schools are to alleviate overcrowding and accommodate the increasing population in our area.

The district has been truthful about all these plans. Before the tax referendum was passed, there were many town meetings to inform the public about the building plan.

As for Lakeside, mentioned in another post, there are plans to build a new school to replace it in a future phase of the building program. The new Southwood will help overcrowding at Lakeside in the meantime.

Building green equals spending more green.

Besides, architects make use of natural light as much as possible in new schools. I'm sure they are looking at many ways to incorporate energy efficiency in the new buildings.

Do you realize what a fire trap old McCants was even with the asbestos?

Renovating that structure and the grounds would take more money than building a new one.

Nostalgia is fine, but give our kids and teachers something new and safe. Even the current McCants is a remodeled old high school, and it doesn't work well as a modern middle school.

That location reminds me of the establishment in the episode of "Seinfeld" in which Jerry tries to help the Pakistani guy be successful in a place that has seen so many businesses come and go.

For a time that's what I thought was going to happen to the place vacated by Daylight Donuts. It's good Osaka Express has been successful there.

Don't know where you got the idea teachers were paid overtime for working on Memorial Day. It was a make-up day, not an additional day - not overtime.

You are wrong about that. Betty Bagley is heavily focused on athletics. In fact, the middle schools have added three sports since Bagley has been here. Additionally, athletic space seems to be a priority in the new building program. She is, after all, a former P.E. teacher.
